Design and operating principle of the Detensor system

The image of the spine column traction when using the Detensor – system are shown with the arrows (before and after the Detensor – therapy). In the picture you can see the mechanism of the spine traction with the elastic edges (ribs) of the Detensor – system and the increase of the inter-vertebral discs space and their dehydration while using traction.

 

Fundamentally, the therapeutic effect of any spine traction’s is based on the mechanism for reducing the pressure inside the discs. It provides the elimination of the disc hernia due to its absorption and self-diaplasis. Thus, the tension in the posterior longitudinal ligament of the disc decreases or even ceases completely, which, in its turn, relieves back pain and allows to achieve the prolonged remission. Spondylography has been proved to be useful in extension of the certain spinal motion segments and increasing the inter-vertebral capacity for the disc.

 

The extension is maintained for some time even after finishing the spine traction. Traction results in decompression of the neural structures, improves the local hemodynamics, decreases edema, and eliminates the pathological tension of the muscles, the muscle contractures arising from it and also subluxations of the inter-vertebral joints. The magnitude of the spinal motion segment extension is different and uneven along the spinal column in various traction methods. Consequently, the height of the inter-vertebral foramina is uneven as well, which affects the treatment efficacy. Thus, one must keep in mind the fact, that traction with excessive loads causes the protective reaction of the para-vertebral muscles, mostly, lumbar muscles, as they are more potent. It prevents the further increase of the inter-vertebral foramina in this region and they can even decrease due to the irrational traction. The Detensor – back traction device allows to perform the traction of the spine column in the gentlest way, implementing self-regulation, according to the patient’s body weight and evenly allocating the traction force, without the excessive loads.

 

Traction has a positive effect also in case of the non-radicular pathology as it impacts the receptors of both fibrous and muscle tissues. Irritation of the muscular receptors, that are being stretched, causes the irritation of the corresponding spinal centers, restoration of their working capacity, especially after the prolonged fatigue. By reflex, the peripheral circulation is improved, which normalizes the metabolism and also contributes to pain relief.

 

Stationary traction devices did not get acclaimed due to their cumbersome design, high price and risk of patient traumas. The devices of the “Detensor”-therapy are comfortable, portable and allow to perform the gentle spine traction in any conditions, restore the natural biorhythm of its physiological elongation and normalize the metabolism of the intervertebral discs, eliminate the muscular spasm and pain syndromes.

 

Clinical trials have resulted in creation of three levels of hardness of the Detensor – vertebral back traction device system for adult patients and two levels of hardness for children, in accordance with the fact that the traction force is determined by the body weight (in appendix see the table for selecting the levels of hardness of the “Detensor”-system due to the patient’s age, height and body weight).

 

The surface of the edges and structurally-conditioned air spaces provide the system with the ideal opportunity of air saturation. Special stretchable sheets help with the air exchange of the system. The insulating ability of the empty spaces between the edges provides the optimal heat exchange. When moving during sleep, the humidity of the system is additionally regulated.
