Ways to Ease Backache and Get back Pain Relief Now

A wise man once said: “The world can be divided into two groups of people: people who suffer from backache and people that will suffer from back pain”.  The reason for the back pain must be identified to enable you to get back pain relief.  The world is filled with chairs and mattresses designed to help support your back, but people suffer from back pain more than at any other time in history.  We will show you why this is so and, more importantly, show you some ways to overcome your upper back pain or lower back pain.

The problem goes back to our childhood.  Young children do not normally complain about back pain, so something must have changed between then and now.  Children do everything according to their natural instincts, so we can learn from them.  They begin by sitting upright, they naturally lift things with their legs and not their back, and so on.  Over time, we learn bad habits.  Things like stress and work take a toll on your back.  You were never meant to sit for hours and hours at a desk, you were meant to do like kids do and move around all day long and keep in shape.  Our busy lives keep us from playing sports, or we decide that we are unable to play because we have gotten older.  The constant sitting and lack of movement make our bodies inflexible and we become overweight, which works to increase our back pain and can lead to chronic back pain.  Bad habits lead to bad posture and attempts to correct your posture usually end with the same mistakes.

To find a solution, we must go back to treating our backs well by sitting with the proper posture, getting up periodically to stretch, and lifting properly.  Here are some other ideas for back pain relief:

  • When in bed, cover your back and be sure your shoulder blades stay covered.
  • Select a pillow that allows your neck and spine to be balanced without any pressure.
  • The best sleep position is the fetal position, where you are on your side with your legs pressed up against your chest.
  • In the morning, be sure to avoid sudden movements. Ask a chiropractic expert or someone trained in physical therapy for ways to warm up your back.
  • Sit upright, with a normal posture, to avoid putting pressure on your lower back.
  • Be sure to have your feet flat on the ground when you are sitting for support.
  • If you sit for long periods of time, be sure to stand up and stretch once every 30 minutes.
  • Do not lift with your lower back. Always use your legs when lifting.
  • Be sure to take the time to warm up before you undertake any physical activity.
  • When you are done with the physical activity, be sure to take the time to stretch before leaving.
  • Most importantly, if you feel pain, stop. You must listen to your body and avoid situations and activities that are painful.

Remember that all you have to do is watch the young children if you want to remember how to care for your back because they have not yet learned all of our bad habits.  You were created with the instincts to do what is right for your back, so you can do it.
